After a brief spell at the Royal College of Music, George Shilling started his recording career at Livingston Studios under the wing of Grammy-winning engineer Jerry Boys, and by the age of 21 had engineered the huge hit "The Only Way Is Up" by Yazz and soon after co-produced another big hit "I'm Free" by the Soup Dragons.

During the 1990s and 2000s George produced and engineered a huge variety of artists including Primal Scream, Texas, Blur, Porcupine Tree and Mike Oldfield and worked in studios all round the world. In 2005 he set up Bank Cottage Studios and since then has increasingly been writing/composing, performing and playing (cello, guitar, bass, keys etc.) on recordings.

George has also contributed extensively to Studio Sound and Resolution magazines with articles spanning over 20 years. He recorded an entire album with Steve Winwood, mixed tracks for Frank Turner, worked with Ocean Colour Scene and engineered two albums with Stornoway, and has worked developing new artists such as the award-winning Aurora J. Young.
