ACCREDITED COURSES
BSc (Hons) Audio & Music Technology

Our Bachelor of Science degree in Audio and Music Technology, delivered on our Cambridge Campus, is the ideal qualification for those interested in pursuing graduate careers in technology-rich industries such as recording, broadcast, film, television, acoustic consultancy and computer game development. Designed from the ground up to instill the skills, knowledge and disciplines that these demanding industries expect from today’s technologists, our course balances academic and scientific rigour with hands-on, practical skills. Our highly-employable graduates can be found working in a range of industries and roles including studio engineers, producers, live sound engineers, acoustic consultants, electronic circuit designers, sound designers, audio programmers, software developers, film / video sound engineers, lecturers, teachers and researchers.

Whilst studying with us, you will participate in a range of lectures, seminars and practical activities examining diverse yet related topics and themes leading to opportunities to explore and discover your own interests, passions and aptitudes in audio industries. Our teaching is underpinned by our extensive, professional standard, recording studio facilities and audio editing suites managed and maintained by a team of active audio professionals.

Within the department of Computing and Technology, students can expect to explore a wide range of disciplines during their studies, engaging in modules covering: programming, studio recording and production, live sound reinforcement, sound processing and synthesis, electronics, acoustics and psychoacoustics, mathematics, film and game sound design.

Our vibrant university community provides a wealth of opportunities for collaborative work and research with staff and students from other departments and faculties such as: Film and TV studies, Electronics, Popular Music, and Computer Gaming Technology. As part of our active Student Union, students are able to form their own societies. Our Audio and Music Technology (AMT) Society is amongst the most successful societies in the university - all members receive expert training in live sound production and stage management enabling them to rig and operate our campus-based sound systems for events in the SU venue, the Academy and further afield around Cambridge.

We maintain active links with local industry partners through membership of our Employer’s Advisory Group allowing us to participate in ongoing dialog with industry to ensure we steer our learning and teaching towards skills and attributes that are in demand in the current employment market. To capitalise on this, students have the option to take advantage of our work placement scheme to gain invaluable real-world experience at one of our industry partners.

Anglia Ruskin is a keen promoter of entrepreneurial skills amongst students, having been voted Entrepreneurial University of the Year in 2014. A number of our recent graduates have founded their own businesses after concluding their studies with us, going on to set up recording studios, a PA hire company and a loudspeaker manufacturing company.

The appeal of our forward thinking, supportive and enthusiastic approach to learning, teaching and personal development is reflected primarily by what our students think about the course and their experience here. The feedback we receive from students past and present is consistently positive and is reflected in our standing in the National Student Satisfaction (NSS) survey and competitive position in national University rankings for Audio and Music Technology courses.

Our location, Cambridge, has been renowned as a centre of learning since the 13th century – and we’ve been here since 1858 when Cambridge School of Art first opened its doors. Today, our friendly, bustling campus is a stone’s throw from the historic city centre with its vibrant cultural and social scene.

Quote from JAMES team of Assessors.
Commenting on the recent JAMES Accreditation, course leader, Dr Stephen Oxnard said, ‘It is hugely encouraging to receive recognition from the industry’s accrediting body. This outcome is a reflection not only of our efforts as an institution but also of the commitment and calibre of our students, past and present. Accreditation represents an invaluable metric by which students and employers can gauge the quality and relevance of courses in a holistic sense, above and beyond academic rigour. We are thrilled to be endorsed by JAMES.
