BA (Hons) Sound Technology
BA (Hons) Music
BA (Hons) Music, Theatre and Entertainment Management
BA (Hons) Theatre Performance and Technology

The BA (Hons) Sound Technology course at LIPA prepares students to be multi-skilled and adaptable practitioners, providing training in recorded sound, live sound and postproduction.

Using industry-standard equipment and facilities, students learn how as well as why, in order to build a strong theoretical base which underpins intensive practical work.

During term-time, there is 24/7 access to six professionally designed studios built around SSL Duality, SSL AWS900SE, Yamaha DM2000, Icon and two Audient ASP8024 consoles, with multitrack recording via ProTools HDX & Native, iZ Radar and Otari 2” analogue tape. Outboard equipment combines the esoteric boutique with staple workhorses and continues its view to future developments.

Live sound is practised in venues of varying scales – from small gig venues, to LIPA’s main auditorium which seats over 400. Monitoring equipment includes Boxer, PMC, Genelec, Focal, Auratone, Dynaudio, K&H, DAS, ATC and Yamaha speakers.

Sound Technology students at LIPA train to make performance possible alongside those from other disciplines such as Acting, Dance, Music, Design and Management, to develop their understanding of the industry and gain valuable experience of interdisciplinary, creative work. Graduates from the course are working at the highest levels in recording studio engineering and production, live sound and theatre sound design, audio systems design, broadcast engineering, audio mastering, sound for film and television, computer game audio, etc. Many have set up their own successful companies.
LIPA’s BA (Hons) Management of Music, Entertainment, Theatre and Events affords graduates the opportunity to achieve enviable management roles at the forefront of the global entertainment industry.

Students develop fundamental business skills, while developing a working understanding of management principles and knowledge specific to each sector. While here, they benefit from opportunities to work on and originate practical projects at LIPA, at venues around Liverpool, and further afield. There are plentiful prospects to apply skills with actors, bands, musicians and dancers from the Institute’s performance-based courses during training, providing invaluable practical experience for the real world. The course boasts strong industry links, with regular masterclasses from top-level professionals and a three-month industry placement in its third year.

Graduates from the Management course are working in senior roles for some of the world’s largest music, entertainment, theatre and events companies. Many are offered full-time positions following third year work placements whereas other graduates have set up their own businesses, undertaking a wide range of activities including event management, organising arena tours, managing and representing successful bands and artists, marketing, publishing, promotion, video production and managing social media.
