Nick Trussler

After achieving a Fine Art Degree based in musical sculpture (!) Nick immersed himself in music projects based in and around Exeter which included world music, folk and psychedelic rock based bands/projects. ("Earcandy" was the psyche-rock group which released some vinyl and CDs)

For about 5 years he worked for a small studio in Devon as engineer/producer and in due course, began to branch out into teaching which gave him increasing satisfaction.

He later founded a company, Music Technology Consultant which he used as a vehicle to carry on numerous music projects, engineering and a growing portfolio of teaching jobs, e.g. teaching the C&G1820 Sound Engineering and Edexcel A-Level Music Tech qualifications. While running MTC, he worked as an A-Level Mus-Tech Examiner, authored some on-line music-tech teacher support units for the Open University and taught postgraduate students music technology on a SCITT (School Based Initial Teacher Training) PGCE course. Additionally, he patched together a
regular income by teaching short spots at four or five different colleges at once, coming in as a semi-peripatetic teacher providing tuition in Music Tech/Sound Engineering.

During this period he was hired by a private music-tech provider to create a whole suite of professional certificate courses accredited by Edexcel. These included four Level 1 courses and a large scale Level 2 and Level 3 course.

Meanwhile, an associate was setting up Deep Blue Sound in Plymouth, where Nick was soon employed and is today, the Education Manager.

With an on-going interest with course certification, for the last four years he has been developing a Foundation Degree in Sound and Music Technology and has just completed writing a huge new City and Guilds programme (7503) along with his colleague, Mark Rose. This replaces their legacy 1820 programme and comprises 43 separate units across levels 1 to 3.

Nick still plays music, but his passion nowadays lays with education and the promotion of creative sound and music technology and the nationwide development of best-practice.
