Phil Harding

Phil Harding started as a Tape-Op at the Marquee Studios, London in 1973 aged 16 years old. Having trained under legendary producers such as Gus Dudgeon working at with artists like Elton John. Phil was engineering by the age of 19 and worked with such diverse acts as The Clash, Killing Joke, Toyah and Matt Bianco. Phil began to earn a reputation as a specialist remixer and in the early eighties teamed up with Stock, Aitken, Waterman at the beginning of their association.

He became chief engineer at PWL Studios which soon became nicknamed 'The Hit Factory'. Phil engineered and remixed many of the early SAW hits including Dead or Alive, Princess, Mel and Kim, Bananarama, Rick Astley and others. He formed a production and remix partnership with Ian Curnow and they produced hits for Pet Shop Boys, Jesus Jones, Climie Fisher, Donna Summer, Kylie Minogue and Rick Astley. Under the guidance of manager Tom Watkins, they produced and wrote many hits for East 17 (including the No. 1 single ‘Stay Another Day’) and Boyzone (including No 1 single ‘Words’). Phil and Ian also provided all the music for the 1999 Channel 4 TV series 'Boyz Unlimited'.

Phil took a break from Studio work whilst taking on the role as MPG Chairman during 2000/2001. He is currently helping to develop a number of solo artists and bands in the UK and USA. He lectures at Universities around the U.K. and teaches regularly at West Suffolk College.

Phil recently mixed ‘Everybody Dance’ by Liberty X with Ian Curnow for the band’s appearance on Children In Need on BBC TV.
