Jim has a history of involvement in the education and accreditation initiatives of the MPG stretching back to his membership of Re-Pro in 1998, as well as serving for some years as an MPG Director. He was amongst the group that set up JAMES.

He has taught in both further and higher education and developed institutional and national course schemes from National Diploma to Post Graduate level.

Jim has also been responsible for developing resources and staff teams that introduced Music Technology and related subjects at South Thames College and the University of Glamorgan, where he became the Head of a large Music and Sound department.

His PhD Thesis was ‘Music Technology in School Education’ and he has contributed papers relating to issues of education and the industry at international conferences. Other papers and publications have covered the musicology of the recording process, musical instrument design and construction, and ethnomusicology.

Jim has now retired from academia, giving him more time to fill his alternative identities of musical instrument maker and to play double bass, guitar, banjo and clarinet in local sessions and bass saxophone with Cardiff’s Wonderbrass.
