UK MUSIC LAUNCHES ASSISTANT RECORDING TECHNICIAN APPRENTICESHIP
UK Music has been working with members, other industry partners and training experts to develop a new apprenticeship in assistant recording technician.
The apprenticeship is available now and is a level 4 qualification that will give employers the ability to take on an apprentice and offer those interested in developing a career in music production an amazing route into the industry.
The qualification was developed by a trailblazer group made up of a wide range of industry partners and experts including: UK Music, Evolution Partnership (on behalf of ScreenSkills), Aquarium Studios, Halo Post, Metropolis, Molinaire, RAK Studios, Alchemy Mastering, Elephant Studios, Music Producers Guild / JAMES, and London South Bank University.
UK Music is very happy to be working with training providers from its Music Academic Partnership (MAP) as it looks to build the take-up of this fantastic alternative route to university.
MAP member Access Creative College (ACC) is currently looking for employers to get involved with the college in the New Year on its first cohort of apprentices. As an employer, you will get their invaluable support and could also access a government grant to take on an apprentice.
Welcoming the scheme, Music Producers Guild Executive Director Cameron Craig said: “The MPG is delighted to be involved in the shaping of the assistant recording technician (ART) apprenticeship scheme.
“With an ever-changing industry, we are glad to have helped create a more flexible approach to the apprenticeship model to meet these changes. We hope that it brings a new approach to starting recording studio life.”
UK Music Director of Education and Skills Dr Oliver Morris said: “I am so happy to see this new qualification and very proud to have supported its development.
“Key to supporting a healthy music industry is ensuring good quality training, a range of routes to entry and a diversity of new entrants.
“Having an apprenticeship such as this where you can earn while you learn will help address the socio-economic barriers some face when starting out in the music industry.
“We are lucky to have such an amazing and dedicated music industry who were willing to volunteer their time to get this over the line. All of those involved in the trailblazer group deserve huge praise.”

Delivery Method
A blended learning method is used, with some online 1-2-1 delivery, in-person 1-2-1 delivery and online classroom settings, to allow your apprentice to network with other learners nationally.
Learners have access to our state-of-art campuses in the seven cities we reside in, Birmingham, Bristol, Lincoln, London, Manchester, Norwich and Plymouth.
Learners will be able to access our ‘Industry Takeover Week’, where they will be able to attend online guest lectures from leaders in the creative industries, the opportunity to work at a host of events from Latitude to eSports tournaments and they will be able to be entered into the National Apprenticeship Awards, which are judged by our industry partners.
Some of our industry partners include; Royal Albert Hall, Arts Council, White Light, Opera North.
