We are seeking to appoint an experienced and exceptional individual for the role of Head of Sound Technology to be responsible for the vision, academic leadership and ongoing strategic development for all provision within the subject area, both within the existing longstanding and successful BA (Hons) Sound Technology programme, and in the intersections with current and future provision across the School of Creative Technologies, Design and Enterprise.

The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with a degree or equivalent qualification, and be a subject specialist with significant expertise in the discipline. You will likely have a recognised Higher Education teaching qualification or fellowship of the HEA and have significant practical and professional experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • Studio Engineering and Production
  • Audio Post-Production for Film and Television
  • Sound Reinforcement in music and/or theatrical contexts
  • Acoustics and Audio Electronics
  • Broadcast Audio Engineering
This is a permanent post to commence in February 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Anglia Ruskin University is Seeking an External Examiner
25 October 2025

Anglia Ruskin University is looking for an External Examiner for our JAMES-accredited undergraduate courses in BSc (Hons) Audio and Music Technology.

Applicants should hold appropriate expertise and experience in the subject area and be able to undertake a role in the assurance of academic standards in Higher Education. Experience in external examining is essential.

Applicants must not hold more than one other external examiner appointment during the same period of contract.

We are unable to consider anyone who has had close involvement with Anglia Ruskin University during the past five years that may compromise objectivity.

Duties will include:
  • assessment review and moderation, ensuring the assessment is appropriate for the level of study,
  • verifying academic standards and programme learning outcomes are appropriate for the level of award,
  • attending Module Review Panels (Assessment boards),
  • submit an annual report.
The External Examiner is paid £775.00 (minus any HMRC deductions), payable on submission of an annual report.
