ACCREDITED COURSES
BA (Hons) Music Production

As one of the original degrees of its type, this innovative programme allows students to develop their talents as a performer, songwriter, composer, producer or sound engineer in a friendly, supportive environment. We emphasise the practical and creative aspects of music making so our graduates are confident in industry-standard and non-standard hardware and software domains, encouraging critical thinking, innovation and entrepreneurship alongside creative and technical expression. Our philosophy allows adaptation of the degree to let students follow their own interests through diverse modules covering studio practice, production, composition, studio design, performance and musicology, all allowing students to explore and develop their own musical direction. Our graduates find success in all corners of the music industry (including the BBC, Metropolis Studios & Brainfeeder Records), as well as outside of it.

Our staff is comprised of practicing composers, performers, musicologists and engineers, teaching and researching in an eclectic department that fosters early music all the way to cutting edge audio technologies.

At Hull we enjoy fantastic facilities like Middleton Hall, where we've invested £9.5 million to create a world-class concert venue, music theatre and cinema, with industry-standard recording facilities. The Duality Studio, our flagship recording facility sits alongside other state-of-the-art resources. These include a 3D surround sound 16.4 Ambisonic Studio, a 20 iMac lab, our Salmon Grove recording and mixing studios, additional large mixing and recording facilities, plus plenty of band practice rooms and ensemble rehearsal spaces. And they're all available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Masterclasses from industry specialists, composers, producers and musicians supplement lectures, seminars and workshops. And there are extracurricular activities too. Students can get involved in staff- and student-led ensembles, workshops, collaborative projects and productions. We assess, depending on modules choices, based on performances, recordings, studio productions, presentations, essays and exams, as well as gig reviews and blog posts.
